Who we are

VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy is a Langa-based organisation that uses sport and structured education to help children build confidence, resilience and opportunity.

Rugby develops discipline, teamwork and self-belief. Combined with quality educational support and holistic care, these opportunities can change the trajectory of a young person’s life.

Sport Rugby coaching, physical development and life skills through structured play.
Academic support Literacy, numeracy and tutoring from early childhood through school.
Early childhood Structured ECD development programmes across Langa.
Nutrition Ensuring children are nourished and ready to learn every day.
Psychosocial support Emotional wellbeing and support for children and families facing adversity.

Why we are raising funds

South Africa’s education crisis starts long before high school. Many children enter formal schooling already behind in language development, literacy and numeracy.

VUSA’s ECD programme focuses on intervention before children fall behind. By building strong foundations early, we help children enter school ready to learn and able to participate confidently.

“We don’t wait for children to fall behind. We start before school starts.”

The evidence

Independent ELOM 4&5 assessments show that VUSA’s 50–59 month-old children are outperforming national, provincial and income-band comparison groups across every measured domain.

The most significant gaps are in numeracy, fine motor coordination, literacy and overall learning outcomes.
