Job Title: Social Worker - VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy

Overview: VUSA Rugby and Learning Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the holistic development of children in the Langa community. This role involves working on the Atlas Digibus, overseeing the afternoon program, providing support to children, maintaining attendance records, and offering guidance to sports coaches and academic staff.

Responsibilities:

Atlas Digibus Support:

  • Collaborate with educators on the Atlas Digibus to provide social and emotional support to Grade 4 and 5 learners at 5 primary schools in Langa.

Afternoon Program

  • Monitor and supervise the afterschool program for 200 children residing in the community.

  • Keep accurate records and identify trends or changes in attendance habits.

  • Conduct follow-up sessions with children whose attendance patterns are changing to provide necessary support and intervention.

Guidance and Support:

  • Provide guidance and counseling to children facing social or emotional challenges.

  • Collaborate with sports coaches and academic staff to ensure a holistic approach to children's development.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community members to enhance support networks for children.

  • Organize community events or workshops to address prevalent social issues and promote community cohesion.

Administration:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of interventions, assessments, and case management activities.

  • Compile reports on program effectiveness, attendance, and individual progress as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field.

  • Valid Social Work license or certification.

  • Experience working with children and families in a community setting an advantage.

  • Strong understanding of child development and social welfare principles.

  • Must speak isiXhosa

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and record-keeping systems.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary: R20,000 cost to company.

  • 1 year contract to be extended pending funding.
