Imagine a Grade 4 child, nervously stepping onto the Digibus for the first time. The seat is unfamiliar, the screen in front of them daunting, and the task ahead—reading and learning in a foreign language—feels insurmountable. Now fast forward a few months: that same child is seated with quiet confidence, raising their hand to explain how coding can tell a story or solving a math problem with confidence. This transformation is the heartbeat of our year at VUSA—stories of courage, determination, and the extraordinary power of opportunity. This
term, we were honoured to welcome HRH Prince William to the Digibus during
his Earthshot tour. His visit reminded us of the long road ahead to safeguard
our planet but also reinforced the power of education to drive change. The
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) drive all our programs, and with the
help of partners like ‘Lessons in Conservation’, run by an
incredible group of Stellenbosch University students we are embedding these
values into our lessons. From teaching conservation to showing children the
small actions they can take to care for the planet, we are equipping the next
generation with the knowledge and agency to make a difference. Perhaps
the greatest new value we’ve added to our program this year is the arrival of
Sabelo Mlonyeni, our social worker. Our children are going through a lot—more
than most of us can imagine. Whether it’s struggles at home, challenges at
school, or simply the burden of growing up in difficult circumstances, they
need someone to guide them through. Sabelo has brought a steady,
compassionate presence, catching children who might otherwise fall through
the cracks and supporting their families through particularly hard times. We
are so grateful to have someone to fill this vital role. Our rugby program continued to be a source of pride and learning. This term, our young players tested their skills against teams from clubs like NTK, Atlas, Belville, Brackenfell and Goodwood. Each match was a lesson—not just in sport but in resilience, discipline, and teamwork. On the pitch, they learned that hard work and unity can bridge any gap. Off the pitch, they carried those lessons into the classroom and their daily lives. Our academic programs continue to strengthen. This year, we welcomed Investec Bank as our new Maths partner. With their support, we are hopeful that the additional resources will help our younger children build stronger foundations in numeracy, setting them up for future success. You can explore more about the impact of our programs in our Annual Report below, which highlights the strides we’ve made in education, sports, and community development. To
end off the year, this past weekend we celebrated one of our most special
traditions: the Bishops / VUSA Christmas party. Every year, it’s a privilege
to partner with Bishops families and increidble organisations like Shoprite, Spur, Sir Fruit, Yokico, Trendy Treees, HCI Foundation,
Homechoice and RIA
Cares to create a magical day for the children. This isn’t
just about the gifts or the celebration—it’s about what it means to the
children. When they see others investing in them, they begin to invest in themselves. Through
it all, the power of community remains at the core of what we do. It’s in the
people who show up, the organisations that stand beside us, and the children
who remind us why this work matters. Together, we are creating opportunities,

This year’s Christmas party was filled with joy, laughter, and heartwarming moments, all thanks to the incredible generosity and support of so many. A
special thank you to Shoprite, Yokico, RIA Cares, Homechoice, The Living
Ball, HCI Foundation, Sir Fruit, and Spur for their wonderful
contributions. Huge gratitude also to Mike Teke, Ryan Mitchell, the
Venn family, Gavin and Sharon Dickinson from Trend for their
incredible support. Thank you also to Sue Johns and her Grade 5
boys for the thoughtful gift bags, the Herschel Girls for their amazing
Christmas biscuit station and Asiphe the Magician for adding a touch of

Thanks to the incredible team at Lessons in Conservation Our children explored the incredible work of SANCCOB this term, learning firsthand how small actions can make a big difference for our environment and its wildlife. Conservation begins with knowledge—and these young minds are ready to make an impact. Outings like these provide our children with experiences that extend beyond the classroom and the field. They spark curiosity, broaden perspectives, and deepen understanding of the world around them. Whether it's learning about conservation at SANCCOB, exploring historical landmarks, or engaging with different communities, these outings help nurture a sense of responsibility, connection, and possibility. They remind our children that their dreams and actions can reach far beyond their current circumstances, inspiring them to see themselves as changemakers in their own lives and the world. |

Our Early Childhood
Development (ECD) programme continues to grow, with dedicated facilitators
providing tailored support to prepare the children for school. The
relationships they’ve built with the children are key to the programme’s
success, ensuring that every child receives the attention and care they
need. The ECD Angels continue to invest time, care, energy and love into our ECD Programme, supporting Likhwezi Educare every Tuesday from 10am-12pm. Thank you for all you have done this year and particular thanks to you and your children for making a school ready pack for all the children going to Grade R next year. BISHOPS PRE-PREP 175 FUN SPORTS DAY

Bishops Pre-Prep hosted a lively funday as part of the 175 celebrations and our children from Gege and Nomonde were thrilled to be part of it! The morning was packed with energy as they participated in exciting races and activities. A
special shoutout to the Bishops families in attendance, who cheered not only
for their own children but also rooted wholeheartedly for our VUSA children.
The shared enthusiasm and support made the day even more special, showing the
strength of our growing community connections. Thank you to Bishops Pre-Prep for this wonderful experience – the joy and laughter from our kids said it all! |

Sabelo, our social worker, recently hosted an insightful community workshop, bringing together parents, school heads, and staff from Langa schools. With an excellent panel of speakers, Mr L Phakade ( Langa Ward Councilor), Mr Kambula (I Am My Brother's Keeper), Miss Jama (Department of Social Development), Mr L Dlaba (Lakhizwe Foundation), Siviwe School of Skills (Gugulethu) and Mr Bagapi ( VUSA Parent). The workshop explored the critical role of collaboration between schools, parents, government and VUSA in nurturing the whole child.
